Kitchen Art...

I made this baby for my kitchen...

It reads:

"Smother yourself in delicious sauces and await further instruction."

Some might try to tell me that it's slightly inappropriate...

To them I would say:  I am obviously referring to my food. What were you thinking?

For Beatrice

Sometime in November I decided to make my dear friend Beatrice a bird pillow that she had seen online as a Christmas gift...

Four months later it is complete!

It's obvious that my pillow contruction could use a little work...it's a little lopsided, but I'm going to say that just adds to its charm...

This pillow didn't cost me anything in materials, but it was certainly an investment in time...So much that I probably will never make another one like it. I loved making it for Beatrice though because she is always so enthusiastic about the whimsical handmade gifts I bestow upon her...

I am very very tempted to keep this baby at my house because I love it a lot. Hopefully Bea will feel the same way...

If you would like to have a pillow like this one, you can buy one from sukanart on etsy

Paper Wheels

In our apartment, the living room walls are covered in that brown paneling from decades ago...I kind of hate it. I was browsing through Pinterest and found a picture of some gorgeous paper wheels that a woman made as christmas tree decorations. I decided to use some of my fun scrapbook paper and pages from a book that I bought at a yardsale last summer to make some paper wheels to spruce up my ugly brown wall.

These are not very awesome photos, but they give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

If I had a ladder, I would make more and fill the wall, but as it stands, that wall is above the stairs and Jesse just about broke his neck hanging them as far to the left as he managed.

We used sewing pins to hang them so as not to poke any noticeable holes in the wall.

I used to think it was nice that I didn't spend any money on them so I wouldn't feel bad when tossing them out before our move to Maryland, but I think they will be going with us. I really love the color, texture, and whimsy that they bring to my home.

Some Color

One day I happened to stand at the front of my living room and notice that it was very monochromatic. I have one green hamper to hold blankets, and one awesome little rug that I love, but other than that it is a cream colored carpet topped with cream colored couches and very light window curtains.

I figured the quickest, easiest, and cheapest way to quickly add color was to make some sort of garland. I hopped onto Pinterest to see what some other people had made. I found a picture of what I wanted. I pulled out my fabric scraps and immediately started cutting...

I hung one across both windows in the living room and I love the way they automatically changed the look of the room. Not only that, but it was a good way to open the door to new color as I was stuck in a rut of green.

My favorite aspect of the garlands is that they are absolutely adorable and cost me nothing...

Dry Erase Boards with personality

For a long time I wanted a kitchen scratch board...you know, for grocery lists, love notes, menus, uplifting thoughts, and so on. I didn't just want something boring and white though, so you can imagine that I was pretty excited when I saw this idea on the interweb...

This project quickly got more expensive than I intended it to...

The humongous frame was at DI for $10. The paint was $4. The fabric was $3.50 because I didn't have any scraps that big and I was picky...

But I have loved having it in my kitchen for the past few months.

I made another one for Eric and Charlene's wedding gift...

Jacque had a box full of frames in the attic and told me to take what I wanted when I mentioned my wedding gift ideas.  Charlene doesn't know how she wants to decorate yet, but her favorite color is red...so I took it and ran with it. I had all the fabric in my box of scraps. The pearl button, and antique glaze were left over from other projects. I only had to spring for the red paint.

Secretly I hope they hate it and will give it back to me...but really I hope they like it a lot and keep it forever.

Infinity Scarf

I made an infinity scarf yesterday...for free. I like how the fabric compliments my gray cardigan...

It's really too bad you can't see it in person...I'm really terrible at taking pictures of myself.

Anyway, I used a tutorial from The Cottage Home. So easy.

I only wish I had made it longer...

I can't wait to show you what I'm crafting for my brother in laws wedding gift...I'm going to be pretty sad to give it away. I just hope they will be pretty happy to be recieving it.

For Ollie

I meant to make this over a year ago...before Oliver J. was born...when I first saw it. Since then, it seems like the idea has exploded...which is fine. That just means everyone has one...and now so do we.

Print that baby on some fresh white card stock and stick in a frame which has been fanci-fied and call it GREAT!

Now if only we had some ink...

I'm not certain who had the original idea for this, but I can tell you that I first saw it at The Rachel Berry Blog.
